Biography:
Ivan Mares is a very well known artist in the world of people working with glass, although he produces a surprisingly small number of pieces. His limited production is the result of long gestation periods of reflection and study of nature. Another factor that constrains his production is his perfectionism. If he thinks that a sculpture is not exactly the right one, he redoes it again and again until it is perfectly realized. This attitude stems from a passionate idealism about the higher meaning and purpose of art.
Ivan Mares' sculptures are in many international public collections, including the Los Angeles Museum of Art, Hokkaido Museum of Modern Art, Sapporo, Japan, Museum of Fine Arts Houston, National Gallery, Prague, Czech Republic, Museum of Fine Arts Boston, National Gallery of Australia, Canberra, Australia and the Corning Museum of Glass. His works are also found in prestigious private collections.
