Sosthéne Weis, born in 1872 in Mertzig and died in 1941 in Luxembourg, is a Luxembourgish watercolor painter of post-impressionist influence. Trained as an architect, he worked for the State and then for the arbed. Passionate about painting, he quickly specialised in watercolour, which became his favourite technique. His works represent essentially landscapes of the city of Luxembourg and its suburbs that he transcribed during his regular walks. He was a very prolific painter, insatiable to capture through his brushes the beauty of the Luxembourg landscapes, proof of his deep attachment to his country.
Unfortunately, like many talented artists, Sosthène Weis only became posthumously one of the most popular artists of the country.
His works are today in the National Museum of History and Art in Luxembourg and are part of many private collections, including those of the city of Luxembourg.
