Biography :
Louis Majorelle was a French cabinetmaker and decorator of the late 19th century. His furniture is created according to the curves, biomorphism and decoration of the Art Nouveau style. His early work was inspired by Rococo and then fell under the influence of Emile Gallé and the formation of the École de Nancy in the 1890s. Born Louis-Jean-Sylvestre Majorelle on September 6, 1859 in Toul, Majorelle began his career as a painter, studying at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris in 1877 before inheriting his father's furniture business and moving to Nancy. Majorelle designed the Villa Majorelle in collaboration with architects Lucien Weissenburger and Henri Sauvage, which has since been acquired by the city of Nancy, where he died on January 15, 1926.
