Signed and dated lower left.
The painting was presented at the exhibition dedicated to "Michel Engels - his life, his work" at the Villa Vauban from April 1 to June 26, 2000 (listed in the catalogue under N°164).
The work is part of a set of 8 others that the artist made during a trip to the Netherlands around 1885-1886.
Restoration of use and maintenance - Restoration carried out at the time by Mrs Gisèle Reuter of the 2 Museums of the City of Luxembourg.

Michel Engels is a Luxembourgish painter and draughtsman, pupil of Jean-Baptiste Fresez. He is considered as one of our greatest artists of the 19th century. He was the co-founder in 1893 of the C.A.L., the Cercle Artistique Luxembourgeois of which he became the President from 1899 to 1901. His pupils were Dominique Lang and Eugène Mousset.
