Exceptional and important service V&B Septfontaines
In earthenware, the most emblematic twig decoration.
Period XVIIIth century
The factory of Septfontaines, three leagues from Luxembourg, was founded in 1766 by the Boch brothers, Jean-François, Dominique and Pierre-Joseph who formed a perfect team. They were originally from Audun-Le-Tiche (Lorraine) where they had worked in their father's foundry and also in the earthenware factory that their father had established in 1748. They had known how to surround themselves with specialists, among others with a man named Pierre Vallet who became their brother-in-law and taught them certain manufacturing processes that they did not know. Pierre Vallet worked in Lunéville and Saint-Clément and never stopped giving them recipes for the composition of colours, paste and pipe clay.
Thus, as soon as they arrived in Luxembourg, the Boch brothers were equipped with solid technical knowledge which allowed them to be successful. After a few years, Pierre-Joseph Boch took over the management of the company and in 1800, following the definitive division between the brothers, he became the sole owner of the pottery.
