Sam Durant is a complete artist, engaged but no less controversial for the themes he addresses in his work, which challenges cultural and political issues through a variety of media. The artist invariably attempts to treat the history of his country, the United States, with a critical eye, leading the viewer to a deeper reflection on the notion of justice. References to the Native American genocide, the civil rights movement, and the history of protest are all prominent in his work. Sam Durant is a complete artist in the sense that he does not limit himself to simple graphic art, but leads to a reflection in which everyone is pushed to a sometimes disturbing questioning.
