My work is presented under two aspects. It is of realistic tendency in the sense that it refers to the woman, the woman in the society and the imagery related to it as well as to the representation of the woman in the art. This is an option taken at the end of the sixties and which has remained the basis of my work until today. On the other hand, in terms of the implementation of the means of expression, of what is known as style, I allow myself every freedom.
Born in 1935 in Esch sur Alzette, the artist Berthe Lutgen received her training at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, which she later refined at the "Kunstakademie" in Munich, then in Düsseldorf and finally at the "Rheinische Friedrich-Willems-Universität" in Bonn.
Berthe Lutgen is a very committed artist and is involved in many causes. She is co-founder of the "Arbeitsgruppe Kunst" (1968-70) and of the "Groupe de Recherche d'Art Politique" (GRAP); and founder of the "Mouvement de Libération des Femmes" (MLF) in Luxembourg (1971). In addition, she was a professor of art education in Luxembourg from 1979-1996.
Feminism and humanism are at the heart of her creation, Berthe Lutgen denounces in her works the sufferings and the injustices of our world, it was thus quite natural for her to contribute to the noble cause of the association Médecins sans Frontières by this gift, offered with much pleasure.
