Christian Pearson, known as SUMO, is today a key figure in contemporary art in Luxembourg. Although he was trained at the Lycée des Arts et Métiers in Luxembourg, Sumo drew his influences from the street, graffiti and the pop culture of the 90's.
Early on, Sumo developed an affection for vinyl and CD covers. These early visual influences lead him to be interested in images as a vector of emotions and thoughts.
Accompanied by his two graffiti friends Spike and Stick, Sumo embarks on an artistic adventure including a series of urban works made with spray cans on several walls even beyond̀ the Luxembourg borders. In this same artistic process, they will then create the 'Hall Of Fame' at the former slaughterhouse of Hollerich (skatepark).
Sumo's creative process develops until the birth in 1999 of his famous 'Crazy Baldhead', an emblematic character that is an integral part of the artist's signature, now known to all Luxembourgers and Street Art enthusiasts.
Prolific artist, Sumo has dedicated himself to his Art for 20 years with always this wilĺ to prick our contemporary societý, to question us on the notion of freedom, free will thanks to popular references such as comics, cartoons, advertising, Hip-hop and its icons, all surrounded by a lot of derision and irony.
Today, Sumo enjoys international fame and is recognized as a key figure in the world of contemporary art. Adopted by his country, he is entrusted with many national projects such as his mission in 2020 to redesign two passenger planes of the national airline Luxair.
