Jacques Adnet was a famous 20th-century French decorator belonging to the Art Deco and Modernist movements. A student at the Beaux-Arts in Paris, he worked with his brother Jean Adnet, of the same profession, creating furniture and objets d'art under a joint signature from 1922 to 1928. At the 1925 Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs, the Adnet brothers had their own stand, where they presented furniture in which Jacques used metal and glass in addition to classical materials, materials he would increasingly favor over time. It was his simple, elegant Art Deco furniture that won over his customers, so much so that in 1928, Louis Süe and André Mare handed over the management of the Compagnie des Arts Français to him, a position he held until 1959. In 1937, he was awarded the Grand Prix for architecture and furniture at the Exposition Universelle for the Saint-Gobain glass pavilion. In 1959, he became Director of the Beaux-Arts de Paris, a position crowned with international success that led to him decorating for the Presidency at the Château de Rambouillet.
