Majla Zeneli, born in Albania in 1980, works with mezzotint, a graphic technique characterized by numerous technical limitations: the time required to create a drawing, limited expressiveness, the need for a concrete model, the obstruction of small format. She explicitly uses these limitations as a starting point for her art. In formal terms, Zeneli also imposes other constraints: the drawings remain simple and abstract. However, during the printing process, the images are transformed: motifs are printed one on top of the other, always creating new configurations. In 2022, the Berlinische Galerie awarded Majla Zeneli the Christine Perthen Prize for printmaking.
