After studying at the Hochschule für Gestaltung Offenbach (Frankfurt) and the Edinburgh College of Art, Jakob Roepke has been represented in numerous galleries, exhibitions, museums and private collections worldwide since the 1980s. "...the stoic-looking protagonists of Roepke's miniatures struggle against the dangers of everyday life, the vagaries of life and the ambiguous joys of the animal and plant world. One observer once declared that his paintings illustrated the way surrealism was born in the aberrant recesses of the Biedermeier."
